Hot Off the Presses

No need to do a double take – that would be me and Rich! In the Thanksgiving issue of Southern Living magazine (Texas Living edition). We weren’t sure if we would make it since there was also a couple with accessories – two adooorable kids. But, here we are. The day we took that photo, it was about 105 degrees outside and we were dressed for fall. But it looks like bearing the heat was well worth it! Fame and doughnuts.
Since we have been back from Baltimore, I have been seeking out one bum in particular. I brought home all my free treats from the Southwest flight and the Hampton Inn – crackers in the shape of airplanes, a blueberry muffin, a box of raisins, two cereal bars and a bottle of water. I put them in a nice brown shopping bag and have been toting them around in my car anxious to give them to this homeless man that we pass on the way to work everyday. Well, he must be on vacation or switched to the night shift or something because I haven’t been able to catch him. Where are you Mr. UT Hat??
Last weekend, a fire started right in front of me – just a foot or so away from where I was standing. I thought people got struck by lightening…not grass fires. Anywho, as soon as it registered that smoke = flames = fire, my confused sounding “Fire??” turned to a seriously concerned, “Fire!!” Yet, no one seemed too phased by my panic.
This past weekend, after being back on our salad kick for two weeks, we had a hankering for something sweet. I had been polishing off honey roasted pecan pieces by the bagful but that just wasn’t cutting it. So, we decided to finally try Hey Cupcake and drove up to Burnet and as soon as we pulled in the lot, the lights went out – no more cupcakes. Hmmm…what to do…how about a slice of pie?? You would think that this would be easy to do, especially since Thanksgiving is only a couple short weeks away. But, we drove around to three places (one had a notice on the door, one was getting ready to close) before we found a place that had pie – Marie Callender’s. Yup, like the frozen dinners. Rich had pecan (with a scoop of ice cream) but I was pecaned out. I had French apple and it was scrumptious.
Just a few days to go! Tonight Rich and I are baking caramel pretzels and tomorrow I am going to be a cleaning machine. My goal is to tackle the porch. I refuse to go out there because of my insect-o-phobia (a.k.a. entomophobia – fear of bugs). You just never know what kind of creepy crawlies could be lurking on the other side of that french door – or worse, what could come in if you open it!
